Since September we have been operating for 3 days a week. 2 days on site, and the third varying between community gardening work and site activities.
Our Christmas meal at the Saracen’s Head in December was a great success. Thank you to Tesco for funding this.
Two new staff members joined our team in January. Jackie, from Amwell View School, and Patrick, a long term and committed volunteer. They are a wonderful addition and make a tremendous difference to the site.
The snow and ice shut the site for 3 days. But other than that, we have been open. This allows for continuity for our trainees, several of whom have autistic tendencies, and find change difficult. Through the cold weather we have done much wood chopping, fixed the edges to the allotment beds and maintained the site.
On Tuesday 2nd Feb our compost toilet was installed. Hurrah! It is a kazuba loo, which is a completely sealed unit. Unfortunately the shed for it was not ready in time, so it is currently in a temporary shed. The new shed for the compost toilet and the tool shed will arrive in 2 week’s time. These have been funded by the Awards for All grant.
The new area is now completely cleared and ready for planting. We are hoping that Van Hage will supply us with some seeds again.
We are planning to do the farmers’ market in March, selling bird feeders, pots of flowers and other wonderful stuff. Come and buy your mother's day gifts!
